Remote - Equity

Designing the equity experience for 10,000+ HR teams inside Remote's EOR platform. Remote is a global Employer of Record platform used by 10,000+ companies to hire, pay, and manage international employees. After acquiring an equity management tool, they needed it integrated seamlessly into the core HR platform without disrupting existing workflows.

Mapped the conceptual seam between two incompatible product models — equity-as-finance vs equity-as-compensation — and designed a unified experience outward from there. Designed the integrated employee equity view, threading cap table data into Remote's existing HR and payroll flows without disrupting either. Ran user research sessions with HR admins across six markets to validate mental models and surface terminology mismatches early.

Two products with different DNA. One seamless experience.

The acquired tool thought in terms of “grants,” “vesting schedules,” and “cap tables.” Remote’s platform thinks in terms of “employees,” “contracts,” and “payroll runs.” These aren’t just different vocabularies — they reflect entirely different mental models of what equity is and who owns it. One treats equity as a financial instrument, managed by finance teams in isolation. The other treats compensation as inseparable from the employment relationship. Reconciling both — for the HR admin on screen and the engineering team under the hood — was the real design problem. We couldn’t simply re-skin the acquired tool. We had to find the conceptual seam where these two worlds could meet naturally, and design outward from there.

Raoul - Legal Assistant

AI assistant built for lawyers, notaries, and regulated professionals. Raoul is a secure AI platform that lets legal professionals search their own document databases, compare contract clauses, generate professional documents, and monitor legal developments — without ever exposing client data to generic AI systems. Built for lawyers, notaries, accountants, and bailiffs who need reliable, deontology-compliant tooling they can trust.

Designed the core assistant interface — balancing conversational AI patterns with the precision and traceability that legal professionals require. Worked through the UX of high-stakes flows: document generation, clause comparison, and legal monitoring, where clarity and confidence in the output is non-negotiable. Navigated the trust problem at the heart of AI for regulated professions — designing an experience that signals reliability and data security without overwhelming users with technical reassurances.

Easop (acquired by Remote) - Global Equity: Simplified

Making global equity simple for startups and their international teams. Easop is an equity management platform that lets companies grant compliant stock options to employees across 70+ countries — without the usual legal overhead, local lawyers, or paperwork delays. It handles jurisdiction-specific compliance, automates documentation, and gives employees the tools to actually understand what their equity is worth.

Designed the end-to-end grant creation flow — making a process that's traditionally complex and opaque feel fast, guided, and trustworthy for People teams with no legal background. Worked on the employee-facing experience, translating dense equity concepts like vesting schedules and tax implications into something international employees could actually understand and act on. Helped define the information architecture across the platform as it scaled from early-stage startup tooling to a product serving companies with workforces across dozens of countries.

About

Orry Barbosa

Senior Product Designer · Based in Paris, France

I studied print making and computer arts, and started my career in branding and print before falling in love with product design. The shift gave me an unusual perspective: I think about systems and user flows the way a brand designer thinks about consistency and voice.

Today I work on 0→1 products, helping teams go from first principles to polished interfaces. I collaborate closely with product managers and engineers — translating ambiguity into clarity, and user needs into interfaces that feel obvious in hindsight.

When I'm not designing, I'm usually playing with my kids, woodworking or renovating. Yes, I always need to build stuff.
